What Drisiúr is
Drisiúr is a desktop app I’m building for my own books, records, comics and games. Like Delicious Library, it shows what you own on shelves, as the covers and cases themselves. It scans barcodes with your webcam, keeps track of what you’ve lent and to whom, and keeps your library on your own computer.
Moving your library
- Export from Delicious Library. On the Mac, choose File → Export… and pick Delimited Text.
- Bring the file over, if you’re moving to Windows. It’s one text file: a USB stick, a shared folder or an email will do.
- Import it into Drisiúr.Add ▾ → Import a library → Choose an export file…, then Fetch artwork & details to look everything up again.
Importing the same file again updates what’s there instead of adding it twice. The full details are in Import and export.
What comes across
Title, creators, type, format, publisher, year, pages, rating, notes, series and number, read, played or watched status, who it’s lent to, platform, running time, size, genre and the IMDb link. Ratings out of ten or as a percentage become stars.
A few things don’t:
- Covers. The export has no pictures in it. Books get their cover again from the ISBN, and Fetch artwork & details finds the rest.
- Purchase price and condition. Drisiúr lists them under Not brought across. Rename the columns
extra.price_paidandextra.conditionin a spreadsheet and import again to keep them. - Loan dates. Loans come across, dated the day you import.
What’s different
- Windows as well as the Mac.
- Everything at its real size. An LP is as big as an LP and a paperback is smaller than a hardback, so a shelf looks like the one at home.
- Lookups are plugins. Open Library, Discogs, MusicBrainz, TMDB and the rest can each be switched off, reordered or replaced, and you can write your own. If one service closes, the others carry on.
- Your library is an open file. It’s one SQLite file that any SQLite tool can open, with exports to CSV, JSON and a web page. Drisiúr is open source under the MIT License, so the app can’t take your library with it either.
- More kinds of shelf. Comics, trading cards with their sets and binders, board games, LEGO, cameras, bottles, and categories of your own.
When it’s ready
Drisiúr isn’t out yet. Leave your email and I’ll send the odd note on how it’s going, and one when it’s ready for Windows and macOS.
You’ll get a link to confirm first, and you can unsubscribe whenever you like. Privacy
